This is one of Stone Brewing's
yearly releases. On the bottle, they have a year, month and day listed for the release going back from '02 all the way up to '12... Wait, what
is supposed to happen this year? Is it like the end of a calendar or something?
You may remember Stone from some of my previous reviews. A majority of there beers are great, with only a few being off-putting, but not necessarily bad. Their beers are all reasonably priced, and all pack something unique. Vertical Epic is one of the great ones.
This Vertical Epic is delicious. I wish I would have been paying
attention to all their previous releases because this is so damn good.
This ale is brewed with Anaheim peppers and cinnamon. The spice really
flavors the beer in a good way. There is a top pop note of drastic
spice, followed by a mellow ale flavor. The nose is sweet and earthy
kind of
spice. There is no noticeable alcohol flavor, which is surprising,
considering the ABV is 9.4%. The flavors are spicy and earthy, followed
by a mellow-ale finish. The spice is just fantastic, and the vague hint
of cinnamon work in concert to create something new. The
peppers used are from Hatch, and really give this beer a somewhat
spicy, earthy flavor. This is definitely not a beer for a novice.

It is so good that I just had to buy another. It
is that epic.
